Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library is a Voluntary Incorporated Society established in 1987 to support and promote the Timaru District Library. Since amalgamation and the formation of the District Libraries with branches at Temuka and Geraldine, the Friends has become a district-wide organization.
Activities involve assisting in practical ways, such as shelving or mending books, as well as arranging special events for both the adult and Children’s Libraries.
These have been varied including stilt walkers, puppeteers, national and international storytellers plus many authors who have come to share their work with members and the general public.
The Friends of the Library have also donated funds for the purchase of books and applied and received grants for the purchase of other specific material.
Friends of the Library will receive newsletters and other Library publications bringing them up-to-date with matters bookish and Library happenings. Membership currently stands at approximately 60 members. Subscriptions Membership $10.00 New members with new ideas are always welcome.
