HISTORICAL FEATURES

Memorial Walkway

The Memorial Walkway will not be affected by proposed changes except where the proposed Piazza Promenade intersects with the Walkway. We recommend that the Walkway be resurfaced with Timaru bluestone sets and pavers to highlight the historical significance of this feature. Historic lighting poles will be painted and restored.

New interpretation panels are proposed to explain the significance of the wall and where the battles were fought.

Whale Pots

These are currently near the Aviaries to the side of the pedestrian entrance. This area will be redesigned to highlight this entrance to the park with the whale pots as a centrepiece feature at the entrance.
