As a regulatory body, Council have to comply, and ensure our District's businesses comply with, a wide variety of legislation.
Acts
Acts are laws made by the New Zealand parliament. Listed below are some of those applicable to Environmental Health in the District:

Bylaws
The
bylaws (273.22 kB) provide for the maintenance of standards of public health and safety, to protect the public from nuisances, minimize the potential for offensive behaviour and to manage land associated with, or under the control of Council, for the wellbeing and enjoyment of the public (in public places) and residents of the District.
Activities in the public place which are controlled range from the obstruction of footpaths by overhanging trees and shrubs, advertising signs and goods, skateboarding, trading in public, to the control of animals, conduct and activities on beaches/parks/reserves and the control and management of traffic.
