Library Rules
The following rules apply specifically to the Timaru District Libraries in terms of Timaru District Bylaw 2006 Chapter 15, and are additional to the General Rules adopted for all Council-managed Cultural & Recreational Facilities.
1. Membership of the Timaru District Libraries is free to all residents and ratepayers of the Timaru District. Those not qualifying for free membership may pay an annual subscription to belong.
2. Other than through the Internet, access to the Timaru District Libraries’ services is limited to the following hours:
Timaru
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9.00am to 8.00pm
Tuesday and Thursday: 9.00am to 6.00pm
Saturday: 10.00am to 1.00pm
Sunday and Public Holidays: 1.00pm to 4.00pm
Closed: 1, 2 January; Easter Friday and Sunday; 25, 26 December
Temuka and Geraldine
Monday to Thursday: 8.30am to 5.00pm
Friday: 8.30am to 6.00pm
Saturday: 10.00am to 1.00pm
Closed: Sunday and Public Holidays
3. Library users will maintain reasonable behaviour on the premises.
4. To borrow items a Library Card must first be obtained. This requires a membership application form to be completed which includes contact details of the applicant and also of a contact person at a different

5. A current Library Card must be presented each time material is issued.
6. The borrower is responsible for all items borrowed on his/her Library Card.
7. The borrower agrees to accept charges incurred from overdue, lost or damaged items, and item rental and reservation fees.
8. The borrower will notify the Library immediately of any change of address.
9. Borrowers may join online if over the age of 18 years and use this temporary membership to search the Libraries Database, but must obtain full membership in order to be able to borrow from the Libraries.
