The Timaru District Council's District Plan, prepared under the Resource Management Act 1991, was made operative on 8 March 2005. The Timaru District Plan determines resource management issues, objectives, policies, methods and rules which control and manage the development of the District over the next 10-15 years. As part of its statutory obligation under the Resource Management Act 1991, the Planning Unit administers the District Plan for Timaru. |

RAPID is short for Rural Area Property Identification. All rural dwellings are given an Identification Plate based on the location of their access point on the road boundary.
Every Council in New Zealand is legally required to prepare a District Plan under the Resource Management Act 1991.
