Creating A Digital Future for All New Zealanders
May 2005 the government launched the New Zealand Digital Strategy with the aim of helping New Zealanders to use information and communications technology (ICT) to enhance all aspects of our lives. The strategy includes the allocation of funding towards increasing access to national knowledge resources and ensuring all New Zealanders are equipped with the skills and confidence required to find and use the information they need.
Initiatives include the launch of websites such as Te Ara : an interactive encyclopaedia)

Any Questions online reference service for school children)

Matapihi a database of over 50,000 images of New Zealand places, events and people) and Archway (which will provide online access to government archives from 1830 to the present day). The Strategy will also provide contestable seed funding to community initiatives that build people’s ICT skills and confidence.
