BUILDING ADVISORY SERVICES

Overview

The Timaru District Council is the Building Control Authority for their district.  They place great importance on providing good customer care at all stages throughout the building process.  To achieve this they are available to able to help you with a range of building needs and requirements including:

  • Building consent applications, variations and amendments, including how to meet the requirements of the Building Code at the application stage
  • Project information memoranda (PIMs)
  • Building and planning inspections for building consents
  • Code compliance certificate applications
  • Compliance schedules and warrants of fitness
  • Independent qualified persons/licensed building practitioners 

Please Note:  For all building work, except that is exempt under Schedule 1 of the Building Act 2004 (refer to Information Sheet IS-123 Exempt Building Work), no building work may be started until a building consent has been granted, paid for and uplifted (issued).

In the first instance you should contact you should contact Customer Services at the main office as below.  They will be able to send you forms or direct you to the appropriate area for a response.  There is usually a Duty Building Officer at the main office to assist with technical enquiries.

All construction, alteration, demolition and maintenance of new and existing buildings in New Zealand are subject to the processes and regulations set out in:
