The Timaru District Council administers the Dog Control Act of 1996 and the Impounding Act of 1955. Almost all of the cost of this service is recovered through registration and impounding fees. The main objectives of the Animal Control Section are educating the public, responding promptly to complaints and improving the safety of the public.
