Registration of Premises

Council registers a number of different premises under the Local Government Act 2002 or the Health (Registration of Premises) Regulations 1966.

Registration is an annual process. Food businesses, camping grounds, hairdressers, offensive trades, mortuaries and beauty therapists/skin piercers are required to register/renew registration annually with Council.

The registration period runs from 1 July to 30 June the following year. Each premises is inspected at least once per year.

If you are taking over existing premises, you may be able to transfer the registration to your name.

Pre-Purchase

Staff are often asked to inspect existing premises or provide information regarding the existence of any requisitions by an intending purchaser before a business changes hands. Such requests are generally carried out only if the existing operator gives permission. A pre-purchase inspection fee may apply.

Before purchasing you can ask the vendor if you can view their last inspection report or you can apply for a Land Information Memorandum (LIM) report from Council. A LIM will provide a report detailing any information that Council holds regarding the property e.g. legal description, stormwater and sewerage drain positions, rates, consents, notices, orders, licences, requisitions etc.
