The Timaru District Council provides a local roading system
(but not state highways). This includes roads, bridges, footpaths,
streetlighting, traffic signals, and parking facilities.
There is an ongoing programme of reviewing the safety on
all rural roads. This involves engineers carrying out inspections,
noting deficiencies and recommending improvements including
signs, roadmarkings or more major works.
