A Restricted Fire Season is declared from midnight Thursday 23 January 2020 in the whole area of the Mid-South Canterbury rural fire district between the Rakaia River and the Waitaki River, sea to the Alps.

A permit is required to light a fire in open air in the following areas:

• High Country zones
• Ashburton Coastal, Timaru Coastal and Waimate Coastal zones
• Geraldine and Waimate Forest zones
