Drop in session
If you have any questions about roads or any other council topic, we're having a drop in session at the Temuka Library and Service Centre on Thursday 14 March between 5 and 7pm where you can come and talk to Cllrs O'Reilly and Lyon as well as our roading experts.
Work to rebuild and resurface Domain Avenue will begin on 1 September 2019.
We know there has been a poor surface for some time now, but the delay was unavoidable due to the need to let the material around the new sewer pipe settle and compact.
If we had put a new surface on the unstable land, the surface would fail quickly leading to cracks and potholes over a short period of time. Any short-term fixes would have not lasted long and would have delayed the full resurfacing of the road.
The works include the reconstruction of underlying from pavement from Whitcombe to Hayhurst Streets, which will cost approximately $300k depending on methodology. Testing and design work will confirm this over the coming 2-3 months. This is needed due to pavement failure, in part due to number of new underground services installed over past few years.
The other part of the job is to reseal Hayhurst to Murray Streets, which will cost around $70k, with some levelling of trenches to occur prior. This is required as the seal has reached the end of its life and has reduced waterproofness. The recoating will protect the generally sound underlying pavement
The road will remain open during the works though there will be delays and temporary traffic management in place, so motorists are welcome to use another route if preferred.
Other roading projects
Major projects this year have include the first stage of upgrading the southern end of Wallingford Road and stage one of Richard Pearce Drive access-lane sealing. We have also undertaken a number of road resurfacing (red), foothpath (pink), and kerb and channel works (blue). Road upgrades are below in green.
They are detailed in the maps below:
