Over 400 works from 20 schools will be available to view in Stafford St this year for Artarama 2025.
The Aigantighe Art Gallery’s Artarama pop up is opening Saturday 20th 12pm, featuring an extraordinary display of student creativity from across the region.
“We’ve seen an incredible range of work this year,” said Izzy Hillman, Exhibitions Curator.
“There’s felt work, paper mâché, prints, glitter and mixed media creations, and pieces made from recycled materials. Teachers have really gone above and beyond this year, and it’s reflected in both the quality of the works and the amazing diversity of subjects and media.”
This year, Artarama is being hosted in the old Unichem building on Stafford Street providing an exciting opportunity to engage with people who have never experienced Artarama before.
“It’s fantastic to bring this exhibition out into the heart of the city,” Izzy said.
“It brings colour and creativity to the main street and lets the wider community see more of what we do to support young artists.”
Visitors will also have the chance to be creatively inspired on site, with a crafting station set up in the middle of the space throughout the exhibition. A prize giving will be held on Sunday 12 October at 1:00pm, including a People’s Choice Award. The exhibition pop up will have the same open hours as the Aigantighe Art Gallery, Tuesday-Friday 10-4pm, and Saturday and Sunday 12-4pm, until 12 October at 4:00pm.
Artarama 2025 is supported by Rotary Timaru North, the Friends of the Aigantighe, the South Canterbury Arts Society, and The Exchange, demonstrating the strong community commitment to nurturing young talent.
The exhibition invites everyone to come along, enjoy the works, and celebrate the creativity of South Canterbury students and this year, its open to a whole new audience being in Stafford St.
Exhibition Dates: Artarama 2025 opens 20 Saturday September 2025 12pm. It runs until 12 October 2025 at 274 Stafford St (the old Unichem building).
