South Street Bridge Replacement

The rail overbridge on South Street has reached the end of its useful life, so we have to replace it.

The current timber bridge, built in 1910, will be replaced with a single span precast concrete bridge.

The new bridge layout will include a single traffic lane with a raised footpath, and will be wider to improve accessibility for larger vehicles and trucks.

While construction takes place there will be no access through South Street. Access for residents located east of the bridge will be via Domain Ave / Patiti Street under the railway viaduct during this time. Note: This has a 3.8 metre height restriction.

Works will commence on Monday 4th September 2023. The expected duration of this project is approximately 12 weeks.
