Year 11 student's across South Canterbury had the opportunity to explore future pathways and connect directly with local employers at a recent Pathways Expo, fully funded through the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs.

The event brought together 33 local businesses, education providers and support services, creating a vibrant space for rangatahi to ask questions, build confidence, and learn about the wide range of opportunities available across the region.

Delivered through strong collaboration between Council, the local Careers and Transition Education Association (CATE team), and industry partners, the event was supported by a dedicated committee who worked together to plan and deliver a day focused on meaningful connections and real-world experiences, Mayors Taskforce For Jobs Coordinator Stacey Barnett said.

“It was incredible to see our young people engaging so confidently with employers and asking questions, exploring options, and really putting themselves out there. Events like this, show just how powerful it is when our community comes together to support their future," She said.

"A big thank you goes to the local CATE team and committee members mostly made of up of local teachers, who helped and worked behind the scenes to bring the event together, along with the many organisations who generously gave their time to support rangatahi.

"Events like this play an important role in strengthening pathways from education into employment, helping young people to see what’s possible close to home."
