  • Broke world mile record for a 15 year old (4min 18 sec) in 1964
  • Broke New Zealand junior 880 yards record (1 min 51 sec) in 1967
  • Won silver medal in 1500 metres at Pan Pacific Games in Tokyo 1969
  • Finalist in 5000 metres and 1500 metres at 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh
  • Broke four-minute mile (3 min 58.8 sec) at Dunedin in 1971
  • Member of New Zealand 4 x 1 mile relay team that broke world record at Auckland in 1972
  • Competed in 5000 metres at Munich Olympics in 1972
  • Competed in world cross country championships in Belgium in 1973
  • Won gold medal in 10,000 metres at 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch (games record time of 27 min 46.4 sec)
