Aigantighe Art Gallery Collection Policy - 2026 Review

Aigantighe Art Gallery Collection Policy consultation

Council welcomes public feedback on the draft Aigantighe Art Gallery Collection Policy.

This policy plays an important role in managing the Gallery’s permanent collection, a taonga for our community. This policy sets the rules for how the Gallery’s permanent collection is managed — including how artworks are added, cared for, and, in some cases, removed. It does not address operational matters such as storage or facilities.

The current policy was approved ten years ago. This review seeks to reflect updated industry best practice and the changing operational environment; for example in regard to instances of repatriation or where an item may have been unethically obtained. It is also proposed to provide the Gallery Director with the authority to deaccess artwork in certain circumstances.

Further information is available in the 28 April Council report (link below).

This is your opportunity to have a say and influence the final policy.

Submissions are accepted until midday, 25 May 2026.
