Removal of minimum Parking requirements

District Plan Changes

Our District Plan has been amended to remove any minimum car parking requirements for any activity or development across the District. The requirements for mobility parking to be provided in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code have not changed.

This means we are removing all objectives, policies, rules, and standards from the District Plan that require minimum on-site parking to be provided for new or existing development anywhere in the District.

These changes are being made in response to the National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPS-UD).  This came into effect on 20 August 2020 and requires councils to change their District Plans to remove the requirement for minimum car parks to be provided, other than in respect of accessible car parks.  These changes must be made within 18 months of the NPS-UD coming into effect and without the need for a public consultation process.

These changes to the District Plan has been made on 24 February 2022.
