Building Related Advice

The Building Advisory Office is a service that providing building advice to the public, trade or industry.

Our team have a wealth of knowledge and experience within the regulatory environment and construction industries and may be able to assist with your queries, concerns or issues and may also connect you with other council staff if and when required.

Some of the common enquiries our team can assist with include, but not limited to the following:

  • does my project require a building consent;
  • how do I apply for a building consent
  • what information is required for my application;
  • Land Information Memorandum (LIM's)
  • Solid Fuel Heater and clear air requirements;
  • the floor plan in my building file does not match the house;
  • what building work does not require a consent;

You can also receive our professional advice and services by either phoning the office (03 687 7236) at any time between 8.30am to 4.45pm or you can email the office building.enquiry@timdc.govt.nz and we will endeavour to reply to your enquiry within 24 hours as normal.

Whilst our team are committed in providing the best professional advice and services for our community, this service is limited to a (one off) 15 minute consultation via the Building Advisory Office (main council building). This limitation is to allow our officers the opportunity to assist all customers with their projects and queries.

Should you require further professional services in addition to your initial enquiries, you may request additional services from the team and these will be subject to applicable fees and charges assessed on a case by case basis.
