Building infringement notices were introduced on 1 July 2008.
They allow councils to issue an infringement notice to any person who commits an offence by not complying with certain provisions of the Building Act.
Infringement types and fees are set in Schedule 1 of the Building (Infringement Offences, Fees and Forms) Regulations 2007 and range in value depending on whether the offence is procedural or more serious.
For further information refer to the "Building infringement scheme guidelines" on the Ministry of Business, Employment and Innovation's (MBIE) website.
Council encourages all persons to comply with all building regulations to avoid such situations.
